Wedding photos and film in White Syke Fields
If you’re after some cool, fun wedding inspiration, you’ve really hit the jackpot with this one! James and Josie’s wedding in White Syke Fields was quite possibly the coolest, funnest day ever.
They met on a film set, fell in love, and married in lockdown. And then two years later, they had a big celebration with their nearest and dearest. And man, what a celebration!
J&J’s wedding proved- once and for all- that weddings don’t have to be serious. They can be stylish, colourful, musical, cool. You can have bubbles, wheelchair dance-offs, and Goldeneye competitions. They can be fun!
This is the wedding in White Syke Fields that broke all the rules. And we were lucky enough to be there; telling the story in photo and film. Come check it out.
The most iconic bridal entrance ever at White Syke Fields
Our story begins a few days before the wedding. A game of basketball; a dodgy landing, and a sickening *crack*. A race to the hospital; unwelcome jokes, and unconvincing reassurances.
And James, our groom-to-be, swearing colourfully from in the backseat.
Fast forward a few days. To the day of J&J’s wedding in White Syke Fields.
The sun blazed down from a clear blue sky, and a gentle breeze blew in across the lake. And there was poor James, standing at the altar in a boot-cast and crutches!
And then, as we all turned to see Josie making her entrance, literally everyone started laughing out loud. Because there was Josie, a huge smile on her face- hobbling down the aisle on crutches of our own!
Now *just imagine* giving up your big bridal entrance for the ultimate pisstake! To have fun, have a laugh, make your husband feel included…
Josie, you absolute legend!
“In you, I found a home I have been longing for”
White Syke Fields has a few ceremony spaces you can choose from. But if the weather’s on your side, the outdoor space by the water is just idyllic.
On the banks of the lake stands a weeping willow (everyone’s favourite tree!) Rustic chairs stood in the warm sunshine. And in front of the weeping willow stood a simple wooden arch with two…floral clouds? Floral fireworks?! Whatever you call them, those pampas grass explosions by Flora House were simply stunning!
The ceremony continued just as it had begun- with tons of personality, laughter and love. Their friend led a personalised service. And with both James and Josie being writers- their personally-written vows had us all laughing, crying, and generally getting super emotional!
When it was all over, they sealed the deal with a kiss. And hobbled back down the aisle together to deafening cheers and applause.
5 steps for having THE MOST fun wedding afternoon ever
Step one: Have your wedding in White Syke Fields (the coolest wedding venue in York!)
Step two: Have bubbles instead of confetti. Because let’s face it, bubbles are WAY more fun than flower petals!
Step three: Hang out with all your favourite people! Swing on the rope swing, play ping pong, and have drinks in the sunny courtyard of White Syke Fields.
Step four: Organise a school sports day! Have games, relay races, hoops, darts, and tons of fun stuff everyone can do together.
Step five: Keep the party going inside. Make sure that when everyone comes into the reception space, the fun doesn’t stop. Have fun stuff, like a table tennis table and a temp tattoo station!
Colourful reception inspiration for your wedding in White Syke Fields
J&J’s reception styling in the Wheelhouse barn was incredible. There were rainbow party bags, and complimentary earplugs in case the party got too loud! They even had a 90’s gaming corner with split-screen Goldeneye!
And they’d done it all in serious style. We loved the mirrorball vases with vibrant orange dried florals. There were watercolour place settings in champagne-corks. And in honour of how they met, their order of the day was written like a movie set call-sheet.
They really had thought of everything. And it brought the already-awesome space to a whole new level of cool.
The speeches were all brilliant, but Josie’s parents stole the show. They’re both music writers, and they’d written a song for J&J. And it was brilliant! The whole family played instruments, and sang. They got us all up, dancing and singing along.
Hands-down the best speech White Syke Fields wedding venue has ever seen!
Couples portraits, open-mic speeches and a wheelchair dance-off
The rest of the day was an absolute rollercoaster of dancing, drinking and adlib speeches!
Our couple’s portrait session was hobbled by the fact that James could only hobble! So we found some cool backdrops (of which White Syke Fields wedding venue has many!), cracked a few smoke bombs, and stayed within crutches-distance!
There was an open-mic for speeches on the lawn (which is an awesome idea, by the way! Why doesn’t everyone do that?!) And as the sun began to set, we headed inside for the party.
And the party was banging! Josie’s brother’s band played, and they brought all the best vibes! James got into a wheelchair dance-off with Nana. Josie’s brother was running round the dancefloor, leading the conga with his guitar. The energy was infectious, joyful, and flawlessly happy.
It was just the best way to end such an incredible day.
